Hello Baltic Community, As most of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year our volleyball team does a fundraiser to raise money for this cause. This year we are joining the fight against breast cancer with one of our very own, Jennifer Even. Jen is a Baltic graduate, lives in the Baltic School District, taught for many years in our district, and she and her husband Kevin have raised their 3 daughters as Baltic Bulldogs. Hannah graduated in 2018, Emma graduated in 2022, and Sophia is currently a freshman and a member of our volleyball team. Jen's journey to fight this disease will incur many expenses. One fundraiser we would like to do to help offset some of those expenses is to sell t-shirts that say, "together we fight". Shirts can be purchased for $16 using the link below. You must order before 8AM on September 26th. Shirt Order Link Thank you for the support! This is homecoming week, which kicks off with coronation tonight at 7:00pm in the high school gym. Friday is the parade at 1:30pm on Main Street. Anyone who wants to enter a float in the parade may do so via the following link. Homecoming Parade Float Registration Please note, that due to safety concerns, it will no longer be permissible to throw candy or other items from a float, vehicle, etc. Anyone who wants to distribute candy or other items may do so by walking along the parade route and handing or underhand throwing the items. Parade lineup will once again be in the vicinity of the Lutheran Church. The parade route will change however, and go west down Nidaros Ave, turn north on 1st Street, and then turn east and go through Main Street ending up at the football stadium for the pep rally. We are in need of additional convertibles, golf carts, etc. to transport past kings and queens, Hall of Fame inductees, and other honorees in the parade. If you have a such a vehicle you are willing to have it used in the parade, call Carol at 605-529-5461 or email her at carol.wickham@k12.sd.us with your name and the type of vehicle. The vehicle would need to be delivered to the Lutheran Church parking lot by 1:00pm, and could be picked up there immediately following the parade. It would be perfectly fine for the owner of the vehicle, other than students, to drive it in the parade. A reminder that the Fine Arts Boosters will host their annual homecoming supper in the commons before the football game. The Bulldog football team will take on Jim River at 7:00pm, and at half-time, there will be four new inductees in the Baltic HIgh School Hall of Fame. In other athletic action this week, our volleyball team travels to West Central on Tuesday and hosts Flandreau on Thursday. Our cross country team travels to Arlington today for their only meet of the week. Good luck to all our our teams! We hope you will join us for some or all of the homecoming activities. Supt.

As much as we would like it not to be so, COVID is still out there. I thought it would be beneficial to review our COVID procedures, which are in-line with current recommendations from the CDC, the SD DOH, and the SDHSAA. 1. If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID, they may not attend school or activities for five days with Day Zero being the onset of symptoms, or for asymptomatic individuals, the test date. They may return to school and activities on Day Six if they are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medicines, their symptoms have improved, and they wear a mask through Day Ten. 2. The school will not contact trace. If a person is identified as a close contact either by the DOH or if there is a positive case in the home, the close contact may attend school and activities if they remain symptom free and wear a mask for five days from the date of last close contact with the positive person. 3. If a student appears ill at school including, but not limited to, exhibiting COVID symptoms, they will be sent to the office. The school nurse, if available, or office personnel will assess the student, make a decision on whether the student may remain in school, and contact parents. 4. The district will not conduct COVID testing at school. We do, however, have COVID at-home tests families may request by calling the main office at 605-529-5464. 5. The same protocols for remaining in school also apply to attending or participating in activities. While it may not be desirable to wear a mask while participating in a sport, it is preferable to not participating at all. 6. In my opinion, we must learn to live with COVID as I highly doubt it is going to be totally eradicated in the foreseeable future. We do want to keep those most at-risk for serious COVID illness as safe as we can by following these basic protocols. The protocols are only as good as the information shared with us, and therefore, we ask parents to inform the school if a student or person in the household tests positive, and/or stay home if they are not feeling well, especially if they are experiencing COVID symptoms. Supt.

Dear Parents, Requesting bus transportation, whether you live in-town or out-of-town, was part of on-line registration. We understand some parents may have had difficulties with the transportation part, for which we apologize. Below is a link to the transportation request form. If you have not requested transportation but wish to do so, or if you are not sure your transportation request went through, please complete the request form immediately. We are about ready to finalize rural bus routes and in-town pickup and dropoff points, and we want to make sure we have all transportation requests before we do. Once routes and pickup/dropoff points are finalized, rural families will be contacted with pickup and dropoff times, and a mass email will go out with in-town pickup and dropoff locations and times. As a reminder, there is a fee for in-town 4th-6th grade students to ride the bus. Parents can go into Parent Portal and make that payment, or you may send a check or cash to school. A reminder that for families who qualify for free or reduced price meals, the fee is waived, which is why it is important for families who might qualify to submit the application for free or reduced price meals. The link to that application was sent with previous emails, or you may contact the school for a hard copy form. All students who sign up for bus transportation, whether they are free or fee-paying, will receive a bag tag they must display before being allowed to ride the bus. So that the bag tags can be distributed by the first day of school, it is imperative that all students wishing bus transportation complete the transportation request form. Our plan is to distribute bag tags to 6th-12th grade students at their registration August 10-11, and to K-5th grade families at Open House on August 15th. Student activity tickets are $15 and may be purchased on Parent Portal or by sending a check or cash to school. Students who qualify for free meals may receive a free activity ticket, and students who qualify for reduced price meals may receive an activity ticket for $5. Contact Brittany at brittany.wipf@k12.sd.us to request a free or reduced price activity ticket. Bus Transportation Request Form Please call the school if you have questions or need assistance. Supt.
