The goal of the Baltic District's Teacher of the Year program is to recognize and honor the tremendous contributions of outstanding classroom teachers. The South Dakota Department of Education defines a classroom teacher as being a person who has a class of his/her own and spends at least three or more hours per day, five days a week, for six or more calendar months during a school year in a classroom teaching students. The South Dakota Department of Education has determined school counselors, school psychologists, non-classified, and school social workers are NOT eligible.
How is the Teacher of the Year selected?
1. Use our online nomination form to nominate a teacher by the deadline that is set each year in the month of April. A link to the online nomination form will also be available at that time.
2. Nominees are notified of their nominations and asked to fill out an informational form describing their background, education and any other information that they feel the committee may need to decide on the teacher who would receive the award, Teacher of the Year.
3. Based on outcome of the voting, the selection committee determines Teacher of the Year.
