On behalf of Sioux Empire United Way, we would like to invite you and your students to participate in our 2023 campaign through our Coins For Kids program.
So what is Coins For Kids?
Coins For Kids is an organized coin collection within the classrooms of your school. Volunteers drop off all materials at a set date. Canisters are distributed to every student and instructions are given to teachers. Typically, this campaign is ran for one week. Baltic will be running this campaign the week of December 5-9. You may encourage your students to bring a baggie with any coins they would like to donate during that week to add to their classroom canister. When all campaigns are completed, volunteers will pick up the coins and canisters to count.
Coins For Kids began in 1999, with a few elementary schools raising funds to help with our food pantry. We worked closely with a few volunteers at First National Bank, SF who counted the coins on site!
Last year, Sioux Falls Public, Tea, Lennox, Worthing, West Central and Harrisburg elementary school districts helped raise funds to buy books through the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. They were able to raise over $32,800, which will provide over 15,000 books to children. We still work with First National Bank, SF volunteers on the pickup and counting of coins, only everything happens at the bank, due to the large amount collected.
At the end of the day, it does not matter the size of the gift, but the impact that these students can make within our community. This program is proof, that when everyone gives a little, it adds up. Together, we can make a difference.
We hope that you encourage your students to help give back to continue providing more children with books Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
